Know your Zone and be prepared for evacuation if necessary

In order to know when to evacuate for hurricane surge flooding, you must KNOW YOUR ZONE!

The greatest killer of people during hurricanes is storm surge – the dome of water pushed ashore by powerful hurricane winds. Entire buildings can be moved and can cause more damage than the winds of a hurricane itself. Florida is extremely vulnerable to surge flooding because of its coastal and low-lying geography.

To stay safe from surge flooding, if you live in a zone that has been ordered to evacuate, get out. The best way to be prepared for a hurricane storm surge is to know your evacuation zone and plan your destination and travel routes ahead of time.

Know Your Zone - search by address to determine if you are in a designated evacuation zone.

List of names for 2021 Hurricane Season

2021 Hurricane Names

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is predicting another above-normal Atlantic hurricane season. Forecasters predict a 60% chance of an above-normal season, a 30% chance of a near-normal season, and a 10% chance of a below-normal season. However, experts do not anticipate the historic level of storm activity seen in 2020.

For 2021, a likely range of 13 to 20 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3 to 5 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher) is expected. NOAA provides these ranges with a 70% confidence. The Atlantic hurricane season extends from June 1 through November 30.

Now is the time to PREPARE!

Dirty carpet and then cleaned carpet in an open office setting

Make a great 1st Impression

Clean carpets make a great first impression and keep the air in your building cleaner. Carpeting acts as a filter, trapping dirt, dust and allergens. As with all filters, they need to be cleaned to work properly. If carpeting isn’t professionally cleaned on a consistent basis, it becomes dirty and can affect the health of your customers and employees. 250 people can bring 3 pounds of dirt in the building each work week! That’s 12 pounds of dirt sitting in your carpet every month.

What are the benefits of professionally cleaned carpets?

  • Reduces germs, bacteria, and mold
  • Removes stains and spots
  • Creates a fresh and uniform environment
  • Leaves behind a fresh smell
  • Extends the life of your carpet
  • Promotes health and clean air

Purple candle with flame on black background

How safe is your candle?

Selecting candles, based on their scent or fragrance, can be a great way to improve your mood, reduce anxiety, and even combat fatigue or loneliness.

A candle flame may be small, but you should treat it as you would any other flame – with care. Candles turn to liquid in order to release their fragrance and this wax carries heat and that can cause another surface, such as a wood table, to catch fire. Over half of candle fires start because the candle is too close to combustible materials.

There are 6 simple steps to follow to use candles safely according to the National Candle Association.

  1. Don't walk away
  2. Secure the area
  3. Keep from kids and pets
  4. Avoid Drafts & Vents
  5. Don't Touch or Move
  6. Keep candles 3" Apart

If you do experience a fire or soot you can always reach us at 904-861-8870.

Here at SERVPRO of North Clay County / Oakleaf / North Middleburg we are prepared to assist you and get your home or business quickly back to a liveable/workable state.   We realize a smoke or fire damage is not easy to deal with and we are here to help with that.

  • Ash and smoke can continue to cause damage and corrosion to materials left behind.
  • Odors from smoke will stay in a room or a home long after the fire and continue to cause problems if they are not removed.
  • In a few minutes, walls and other surfaces can become discolored.
  • In a few hours, finishes on kitchen appliances turn yellow.
  • Smoke causes etching in glass after just a short time, and smoke will tarnish metal quickly.

So, during the initial fire or smoke loss protect yourself and anyone else along with pets from getting hurt or smoke inhalation.  SERVPRO can clean up the mess, but we cannot save your life.

Church sanctuary with stage and a man riding a green piece of equipment extracting water from the carpet

Save the Carpet? We can in some situations!

We pride ourselves in having innovative equipment that benefits our customers.  Whether it is the insurance customer or the homeowner or a business owner we work hard to maintain our knowledge on all the services we offer.

In this photo we are doing what we call "weighted extraction" at a church that had a large water damage in their sanctuary.  The reason behind this type of extraction is to create the least amount of disruption in your life.  Depending on the source of water,  what the subfloor is and how long it’s been wet we can save the carpet and not have to remove it therefore causing less commotion in your home or office.

We also do an antimicrobial treatment and dry the area to a qualified moisture content and clean the carpet to ensure it is safe for the church members.

We lost our home so we understand first hand what your feeling

Our home in 2012 when Tropical Storm Debby came through our area.  While we have been working with customers for over 25 years we never expected to be directly impacted.  "We left for work that morning and returned at lunch, this is what we came home too".  Water had rushed throughout our home and damaged everything we own.  The reason we say "Why SERVPRO" is that not only do we feel like we treat every customer as if they were our only one..... we have been through what you are going through so we understand.  We dealt with the same thing you are going through and that is why we say SERVPRO is the best!  You will find we want you to feel like your home or business is the most important thing to us and it is!

How we clean contents from a fire damage loss

The ultrasonic machine creates microscopic bubbles with sound waves moving through the water.   The process is cavitation (caused by the spinning motion of the bubbles). The microscopic size of the bubbles makes them more efficient during the cleaning process. Bubbles that are created through cavitation are empty space, there’s nothing that holds them open. As a result, the bubbles will collapse, or implode. This will happen a million times per second. The constant implosion produces vacuum energy, in the form of heat and pressure. The combination of heat and pressure which gives Ultrasonic its cleaning capability and power. When cavitation happens next to a dirty object, the vacuum action produced by millions of bubbles constantly imploding it creates a tiny pressure wave that reaches deep into every nook and cranny. This pressure wave dislodges and breaks up any dirt and other contaminants.
